Longman Lindsey was very proud to be selected as the acoustical consultant for Covenant House, the largest shelter and refuge for young people facing crisis in New York City.

The new facility is twelve stores, six of which provide bedrooms and housing. Interactive spaces include classrooms, computer rooms, basketball court, medical clinic, prayer room, and music room. From an acoustical perspective, we were careful to balance the requirements of spaces that had a need for quiet/contemplation, and spaces that would be loud and full of energy. Working with the project team, we guided selections of acoustic assemblies and finishes that suited both types of spaces and were suitably robust.

Our work at Covenant House started with a carefully planned environmental survey at their previous facility, as the site is in close proximity to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Lincoln Tunnel. These factors resulted in required window/wall attenuation to sufficiently mitigate traffic noise. Longman Lindsey conducted the survey and analysis, leading to approval by New York City’s Office of Environmental Remediation.
