Brown Harris Stevens, the residential management company for 655 Park Avenue, requested that our team investigate numerous environmental noise complaints from building tenants regarding a ground-level kitchen exhaust system.
We completed an acoustical review of the noise issues and confirmed the exhaust unit was the source of the complaints. The kitchen exhaust system, which discharges into the courtyard, operates with fans selected for high static pressure, creating a noisy environment for residents with courtyard facing windows. Based on our analysis, changes to ductwork and incorporation of sound attenuators were necessary between the kitchen exhaust fan and the termination point within the courtyard to remedy the situation.
